Treating Varicose Veins

Before the procedure begins, the faulty “trouble-maker” varicose veins are marked using state of the art, non-invasive ultrasound visualization. The markings will serve as a guide for Dr. Zisbrod during the procedure. A topical numbing cream is then applied to the skin, making the injection of the local anesthetic virtually painless. The area to be treated is then cleaned and prepped for the laser procedure.

A laser fiber is then inserted directly into the vein through a catheter (tiny tube). Pulses of laser energy are released along the course of the vein to seal it off. Patients with bulging varicose branches who may need Mini-Phlebectomy treatment (minor treatment to remove the vein) will have it performed at the same time.

The laser treatment procedure requires only a small needle puncture to the skin. Once the laser has sealed the vein, the fiber is removed and a small adhesive bandage closes the area. When the laser vein treatment procedure is complete, the leg is wrapped with elastic bandages. Post-treatment instructions are reviewed thoroughly. When patients walk out of the medical office they can return to their normal daily routine.

The Vein Viewer

The Vein Viewer, one of the latest innovations in vein imaging, is used in our facility to provide you with the best results possible. The Vein Viewer uses non-invasive, harmless infrared light to project onto the skin and help detect the varicose/spider veins beneath the skin.

The vein viewer helps provide a more precise and, therefore, more comfortable experience for the patient. With the use of this innovative device, all of the small skin surface veins can be examined in fine detail prior or during vein treatment of spider and varicose veins and save unnecessary needle punctures.
